A RESPONSIBLE SOCIETY
Our commitments are linked to the procedure initiated by the RJC (Responsible Jewellery Council). The procedure defines the rules of professional ethics and performance that a responsible enterprise must follow.
The RJC is a standardization body that was created to promote ethically, socially and environmentally responsible practices among the supply chain of the jewellers dealing with diamonds, gold and and platin, from extraction to retail selling.
This body developed a reference norm for the supply chain of jewellery, as well as trustworthy mechanism that allow to check the practices of responsible enterprises through independent audits.
In order to respect this commitment and the trust of our business partners, our staff members integrate the RJC requirements into their daily activities, be it at work or in their private lives.

THE KIMBERLEY PROCESS
The Kimberley process is an international certification of raw diamonds which aims to avoid the use of diamonds that are introduced on the international market by rebel movements wishing to finance their military activities.
This process permits to warrant, by means of a legitimacy certificate, that the raw diamonds entering a country that has signed the process do not come from a war zone. The diamonds bought by MONTREMO SA all come from countries that are members of the Kimberley process of certification and are not implicated in armed conflicts, in compliance with the UNO resolutions.

GUARANTEE SYSTEM OF THE WORLD DIAMOND COUNCIL
The control process of diamonds can be pushed even further through the guarantee system, which comes on top of the Kimberley process since it applies to cut diamonds as well. The enterprises working with diamonds have indeed decided to take additional measures in order to fight against the trade of diamonds coming from conflict zones. These measures concern the areas of fabrication and sale of diamonds.
Each seller of "cut" diamonds gives out a written assurance, that is then passed on to each new owner of the diamond. This guarantee informs the buyers that the diamond does not come from a war zone.
The aim of those controls is to refrain the trade of conflict diamonds, and for that each jeweller must:
- demand from his suppliers assurances for all cut diamonds
- inform in writing his suppliers that the guarantee will be requested
- keep the guarantees at least five years

MONTREMO SA certifies that all the diamonds we buy come from countries which apply the Kimberley process, and that our suppliers respect this system of guarantee as well, in order to warrant the legitimacy of our diamonds. All our invoices do carry the compulsory mention of guarantee.
